53rd International Heinrich Schütz Festival in Lemgo (September 26-29, 2024)

Dear Members of the International Heinrich Schütz Society,
Dear Newsletter Subscribers,

In today’s newsletter we would like to draw your attention to the publication of the complete programme for the 53rd International Heinrich Schütz Festival, which will take place in the old Hanseatic town of Lemgo on 26-29 September 2024 in conjunction with the mixTour Festival.

This enchanting Renaissance and Hanseatic town is an obvious location for a Schütz Festival. The sixteenth- and seventeenth-century town centre, almost completely preserved as Heinrich Schütz would have seen it during his travels to other Hanseatic towns in Northern Germany; the residence of Count Simon VI zur Lippe in Schloss Brake, where Schütz’s friend from his student years, Johann Grabbe, was employed; and the impeccably restored church of St. Marien, which transports us back to the sound world of the early seventeenth century – all these enable us to sense the importance of art and music in the everyday lives of seventeenth-century people.

Together with the mixTour Festival 2024 as well as the Freundeskreis Weserrenaissance-Museum Schloss Brake e.V., we have prepared an extraordinary programme, which will take us musically to the old Hanseatic towns (Europäisches Hanse-Ensemble), via Persia to Japan (Johann Rosenmüller Ensemble) and to Italy (Concerto Farinelli), even without us leaving County Lippe. The concert programme will be accompanied by a scholarly symposium under the heading Music and Cultural Transfer in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries, led by Prof. Dr. Michael Meyer, as well as organ and city tours, a museum visit and a closing worship service. And we shall not miss out on a convivial gathering for our members either.

You can find the complete programme for the 53rd International Heinrich Schütz Festival on our website, together with a registration form for all the events as well as information regarding overnight accommodation in Lemgo. A printed programme flier will be sent out to our members in July together with the Schütz-Jahrbuch 2023.

NB: We have reserved a set of hotel rooms in Lemgo. Because capacity is limited, we would like to ask you to let us know in a timely fashion whether you are planning to attend this Schütz Festival.

I would be delighted to welcome you all to the 53rd International Heinrich Schütz Festival in Lemgo and to experience this special programme in your company.

With kind regards

Arno Paduch
